Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek - 13 Days
     
 

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek (13 day trek): The glacial-basin of the Annapurna sanctuary is formed by the circle of Annapurna Himalaya range, Gangapurna and Machapuchare. After a short jeep ride to Phedi you climb a terraced hill to Dhampus (1799m). Continue to walk on the ridge to Landrung (1464m) After Landrung the trail branch out to the sanctuary. The other trails leads to Ghorepani and Birenthati. The trail follows Modi Khola (river). Walk through thick bambo and rhododendron forest into the center of lateral moraine and base camp of Annapurna (3963m). En-route you stop at Chumro (1951m), Kuldi (2378m) and Hinko (3018m) moving slowly and acclimitizing as you reach higher elevation. At the sanctuary you are completely surrounded by the mountain and its spectacular view. This area has been subject of many writers and photographers. There are articles and photographs published in National Geography magazine. Highest elevation you reach is 3963m at Annapurna base camp. There are several lodges on this trail.

 
     
  Itineraries  
 

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu
Upon arrival, meeting and assistance at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to hotel.
PM: Free and Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Fly to Pokhara. Drive to Nayapul, trek to Hile (3 hrs)
Drive leisurely to Nayapul, the trail descends to Modi Khola after Chandrakot and reach to suspension bridge at Birenthati. It is one-hour drive from Pokhara to Birenthati (1080m) situated along the Modi River. You will have excellent views of waterfalls and meet friendly people along the trail. The trail ascends to Tirkhedhunga.





Day 03:
Trek to Ghorepani (2874m) 6 -7 hrs
The trail to Ghorepani is steep up; this is the little difficult part of the trek though it can be manage at slow pace walking. Ghorepani is on of the most popular village along Annapurna circuit. Many trekkers who do not trek the whole circuit visit Ghorepani to view a magnificent panorama of the Himalaya peaks. Most of the habitants in this village are magars and Gurungs. Visit Poon Hill (3210m) early next morning about one hour walk you can have the excellent views of Machapuchre, Annapurnas and Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri Himal and in spring best views of Rhododendron flowers in its vicinity or in the trail in between Ghorepani-Ghandrung . The red one called Lali Gurans, which is the national flower of Nepal.

Day 04: Trek to Tadapani (2595m)- 5 hrs
Take a sunrise view from Poonhill (3210m) before heading towards Tadapani. After the magnificent view from Poon hill, you will walk through easy trail, a little steep up at the beginning, this day walking is pleasant as you cross through rhododendron forests, beautiful view of Annapurna South is visible constantly on the trail. Lunch stop would be at Banthanti. From Banthanti to Tadapani is about 1 hour walk relatively easy and pleasant.


Day 05:
Trek to Chomrong (2170m) -5 hrs
Leaving Tadapani, the trail goes steep down which turns to left, cross the Bridge at Chuile, the day walk would be mostly on the riverbank of Kyummnu Khola.




Day 06:
Trek to Himalaya Hotel (2870m)-6 hrs
Leaving Chhomro, the trail descends and crosses the Chhomro Khola, then climbs again out of the side valley in which Chhomro is situated. The trail pass through forest of rhododendron, oak and hemlock and reach at Kuldi (2380m) A small rest house offers some shelter. The bamboo forests beyond Kuldi are dense, locals hack them down hundred of these to make dokos, the woven baskets carried by the porters, mats for floors and other stuffs, In winter it is common to encounter snow anywhere from this point. When there is snow, this stretch of trail is particularly difficult as the bamboo laying hidden on the trail beneath the snow provides an excellent start to a slide downhill walk.


Day 07/08:
Trek to Machhapuchre Base camp (3700m)-5-6 hrs, and Trek to Annapurna Base camp (4130m)-2 hrs.
It takes 5-6 hours to reach Macchpuchre base camp from Himalaya Hotel, walk through rocky trail little steep up comes Hinko, at 3170m, is often called ‘Hinko cave’ because a huge overhanging rock provides some protection above the only spot flat enough for camping on this side of the valley. The trail crosses a ravine just beyond Hinko, then climb through large boulders as the valley widens and becomes less steep. In winter and spring this section of the trek can be dangerous, avalanches from Hiunchuli and Annapurna South which are above but can not be seen from here, can come crashing into the valley with unbelieving speed.
From a camp in the sanctuary, it is possible to visit the base camp of Annapurna South. A number of peaks accessible from this area are open to trekking groups. Tent Peak (5500m) offers a commanding 360-degree view of the entire sanctuary, Fluted Peak (6390m) demands some mountaineering experiences; Hiunchuli (6441m) on the south is magnificent.

Day 09: Retrace trail back to Bamboo (2340m) - 5 hrs
Day 10: Trek to Jhinu danda (1780m) -6 hrs
Evening take a hot spring bath at hot spring

Day 11: Trek to Nayapul via Syauli Bazaar, transfer to hotel
Very interesting day walk, easy and memorable day, you walk through nice villages and on the river bed of Modi Khola, you will encounter bee hives on several places on the slopes of mountains. After lunch at Syauli Bazaar, you will walk further to Nayapul. From Nayapul you will be transferred to Pokhara and Overnight at Hotel.

Day 12: After breakfast at hotel transfer to Airport for Kathmandu Flight.
Free and Leisure activities
Overnight at hotel.



Day 13:
Depart Kathmandu
Free until departure transfer to airport to board flight for your onward destination.
Best time to visit
Springs (early April to May) and autumn (early October to late November) are best time to visit Nepal.
