Rafting at River of Gold (SUNKOSHI) - Sunkoshi Rafting Expedition:
     
 

This enchanting river expedition of 9 days will definitely be the highlight of your visit to Nepal, its memory shall last for ever and ever ... Sunkoshi is an in predictable river, it has its own moods, serene, clam and tranquil one moment, will and turbulent the next, always changing , always challenging, the ultimate in the river adventure. Within a short span or 9 days, you come in close contact with Nepal's natural beauty, people, culture, wildlife and its rivers, its simply magic, an experience you shall be glad you took.
We travel by surface to Dolalghat your raft 'put - in- point' covering the distance of 57kms, in about 2.5 hrs. Your excitement start and ends only after you have covered 210kms of wild stretches, calm flows through high rock walls and rock strewn passages eventually emerging from the mountains to the flat plains of Southern Nepal. A general itinerary: The itinerary generalizes the route. Water level and river condition may necessitate variations to timing and camping spots occasionally.

 
     
  A General Itinerary:  
 

Day 01 Arrive Kathmandu

Upon arrival, meeting and assistance at Tribhuwan International Airport and transfer to Hotel.
PM: Free and Overnight at Hotel.


Day 02: Dumja Besi, Rafting Approx. 4 hrs.

A 2hrs. drive to Dolalghat and start rafting, you shall be cheered by the gathered villages as you drift away slowly gathering momentum, slowly leaving behind the Langtang ranges. Sunkoshi is considered as Holy river by the Nepalese Hindus, the river flows into the Holy Ganges in India. Soon we hit the Khuei Bhai rapid, these rapids are very technical, strewn with rocks and boulders, hence, considerable care is needed. Camp for the Mahdev temple, reputed to be the Shiva Temple in Nepal.


Day 03: Khunkot , Rafting  Approx 4.5 hrs.


Wet and Wild. Immediately we are hitting the rapids passing en route the fishing village of Kodaris and the Chamere Bhir where you see hundreds of bats screaming and clinging to the walls of the cliffs, some good fun filled rapids takes up to Khunkot where we camp for the night.


Day 04: Likhu Rafting approx , 4 hrs.


Habitations dwindle, few poor Rai village en route, exciting rapids in the afternoon with good photo prospects.


Day 05: Harakpur Rafting Approx. 5 hrs.


Today, we pass through deep gorges punctuated with exciting rapids unfolding pleasant floats in the afternoon troops of Lange and Rhesus monkeys can be seen romping the river banks.


Day 06: Raighat Rafting Approx. 5 hrs.


Today is one of the most exciting and challenging days of the expedition encountering same very demanding rapids where you witness the skills of our guides


Day 07: Banderghat : Rafting Approx: 4.5 hrs.


Holds tight, the ridge is not over yet... as past the point of Sap Su Khola is a rapid with the greatest drop Huge "holes", "eddies", and churning "stopper waves" demands team work and hard paddle.


Day 08: Bonjurghat Rafting Approx : 4 hrs.


We take to the rapids again, busy all morning earnestly thanking for the lunch break, emerging from the Mardheku gorge the river spreads wide, less agitated after its confinement between steep cliffs and gorges.


Day 09: Barachhetra Rafting Approx. 4.5 hrs.

Today the hole stretch is a mixture of fun filled rapids and calm undulating floats, you are somewhat relived, yet sad that the trip is coming to end, all good things ultimately does…


Day 10:  Chatara Rafting Approx. 2 hrs…


After a while we join the thribed waters of the Arun Koshi encountering our last rapids so the junction of the Tamor Koshi. The river change its course from west-east to north – east through beautiful gorge floating to the white temple of Baraha chhetra set upon the east bank. This is a Hindu Temple dedicated to 12 different Hindu Gods and Goddesses; we stop to pay a visit. Suddenly we break through the Mahabharat and Rapcha Ranges and spreading before us is a completely flat horizon, slowly we drift to chatara.


Day 11: Depart from Kathmandu

Free till departure transfer to the airport to board flight for your onward destination.

Please note: The tariff does note cover insurance of any kind medical or personal, though explicit care and attention will be rendered at all the times, we are not responsible for any happenings beyond our control, since some element of risk is involved in the nature of your trip.

We provide the following services for the duration of the trip:

  1. All meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner while rafting.
  2. All camping equipment such as two – man tents, light mattresses, sleeping bags and kitchen utensils.
  3. Helmets, life –jackets and kit-bags with polythene paper lining to keep your clothes and sleeping bags dry.
  4. Rafting crew consisting of an experienced controller, paddlers, cook and helper

Following is the list of items the clients are expected to bring along. Please travel as light you can:

  1. At least two extra sets of dry clothes. As it cold from Novermber through February, a waterproof jacket will be very handy. While trousers, pullovers or jackets are needed for the morning and evenings during this period, shorts and T-shirts will sufficient for the months of September, October, March, April and May. As the clients will arrive completerly soaked on shore, at the camp sites, immediate change into dry set of clothing is necessary. Treak –suits are the most popular item for many rafters.
  2. Waterproof drums for your cameras, and a second pair of tennis shoes or sleeper for use around the camp.
  3. Proctection from the sun such as sun-glasses, sun-hats, cream and lotions to prevent sunburn and insect repellants during the warmer months.
  4. Electric torchlights as the use of candles is not advisable inside the tents.

Please don’t carry unnecessary valuables, once the trip start refund will not be entertained.
